Sacha Inchi is a cold-pressed organic oil (from the seeds of Sacha Inchi) from the Peruvian Amazon. The seeds have a high protein content (30%) and are rich in vital omega-3, also mineral salts and vitamins A and E.
In 2006, Plukenetia oil (Sacha Inchi) was named the best edible oil at the World Ethic & Specialty Food Show, for its special properties and high nutritional status. The oil is obtained by cold pressing the seeds of Plukenetia volubilis, from the Peruvian Amazon forest. It produces star-shaped fruits containing seeds of about 15-20 mm that resemble peanuts, hence the name Peanut of the Inca, Sacha Peanut or Sacha Inchi.
Among the vegetable oils, Sacha Inchi has the highest content of Omega-3 fatty acids. It also contains Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids. From this it can be concluded that the oil is formed almost exclusively (about 93-96%) from polyunsaturated fatty acids.
